Srinagar, Apr 29 (KNO): Local cricketers are fast becoming star attractions in Kashmir’s cricket circuit, pulling crowds and turning routine fixtures into high interest events The trend, according to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), was evident at MET Ground in North Kashmir's Sopore during the Sonth Cup pre-quarterfinal, where a large turnout witnessed Lazzat XI defeat Badam Bagh XI by five wickets. The spotlight remained on local all-rounder Ishtiyaq Rasool @ Ish Naag, whose presence drew spectators from across nearby areas. Representing Lazzat XI Sopore, Ishtiyaq delivered a standout all round performance against Badam Bagh XI. Ishtiyaq, who hails from South Kashmir's Anantnag, has built a reputation for hard hitting batting and match turning spells. He picked five wickets to break the opposition, then smashed 43 runs off just 16 balls to guide his side to a 5-wicket win. He was named as Player of the Match. Waseem Kachur, another local star added to the excitement with an unbeaten 79, ensuring the chase stayed on track and earning the Game Changer award. Speaking after the match, Ishtiyaq said the support from the crowd drives his game. “When people come to watch, it pushes you to give more. I try to perform in both roles and entertain at the same time,” he said. Similarly, Lazzat's Managing Director Aijaz Bhat, said consistent efforts are being made to promote sports at the grassroots level. “We are focused on creating opportunities for local talent. When players perform like this, it inspires others and strengthens the sports culture in the region,” he said. It is noteworthy, beyond the boundary ropes, the impact is visible online as well. Local cricketers are gaining traction on social media, with match clips, big hits and wicket celebrations widely shared across platforms.
